Texas sales tax can be confusing. According to Texas Administrative Code 34 TAC §3.333(e), “charges for providing security services to property or persons located in Texas are subject to Texas sales tax.” However, many CPAs are not familiar with this provision or with Texas Occupations Code §1702.

As a result, the Texas Comptroller of Public Accounts has begun systematically auditing companies licensed with the Private Security Bureau (PSB).
